Live Better with Your Executive Life in Hong Kong
Despite its business-sounding though ambiguous name, "LIVE BETTER WITH YOUR EXECUTIVE LIFE IN HONG KONG", this blog, in essence, is a platform for promoting the teachings of the Church of Scientology and its founder, L. Ron Hubbard's philosophy. As far as the reviewer can tell, whatever the term "executive life" means, this blog has less to do with business than Scientology.
At a casual glance, Phyllis Law is the name of a Westerner. But after a close look at this blogger's writing, particularly at her grammar, sentence patterns, vocabulary, and so forth, the reviewer came to realize that Phyllis is likely a person of HK Chinese descent.
The quality of writing in this blog is uneven; the language in some entries
is more fluent than the others. And some of her writing is incomprehensible due to the complexity of the subject matter involved and the blogger's inability to express herself clearly in her second language (the reviewer has the same problem). This blogger's writing style has many common characteristics of the so-called "Hong Kong English", and it bears many traits of how we HK Chinese write in English. This is not a matter of good or bad; the reviewer merely reports his observation and states his finding in this review.
Hong Kong has freedom of speech and freedom of religion, there is no need to conceal one's intention and disguise one's spiritual conviction in order to promote a controversial belief system, or any faith for that matter. It's more appropriate for this blog to be named "Scientology in Hong Kong", or "Learn All about Scientology", or "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Scientology but Were Afraid to Ask", or something in that order.
The reviewer says, if you are a linguist or interested in Scientology, "LIVE BETTER WITH YOUR EXECUTIVE LIFE IN HONG KONG" might well be a blog for you.
